A Branding Shoot for My OBM
(And Why She’s Essential to My Business)
Every now and then, I get to photograph people who are genuinely involved in my day-to-day. It’s always fun, and it always involves belly laughs and, if we’re lucky… which we were this time… cocktails!
This time, it was my own Online Business Manager, Bec from Becollab. I should also mention that over the couple of years working together, we’ve also become genuine friends. Like spill the tea type friends. Oh, and there’s always tea!
So yes… the pressure was slightly higher than usual.
Because when the person who helps keep your entire business running smoothly flies across the country for photos, you really want to deliver.
Thankfully, we had the best day (that part I knew was a given).
When Your OBM Flies From Perth (Because Apparently No One Else Would Do)
Bec flew over from Perth for a few days in Sydney, and we planned a branding shoot in a gorgeous co-working space in the city.
The space itself is top secret (apparently, we’re protecting the cool kids club vibe), but it had everything we needed:
Beautiful light
Neutral textures
Interesting features
Multiple working areas
Meeting spaces
Quiet corners
And a bar (essential), because Bec’s personal brand is all about business support from coffee to cocktails!
But most of all it fit in so well with Becollab’s visual brand aesthetic. Professional, chic and working hard to make YOU look good.
We made several jokes about how this is what Bec looks like listening to my VM’s. They’re unhinged to say the least. I’m usually in creator mode with ideas just splattering everywhere. She’s got the patience of a saint.
The Goal of the Shoot
The aim was to create a library of images that Bec could use across her website, LinkedIn, and marketing.
We wanted a mix of:
Professional headshots
Natural working moments
Close-up brand imagery
Relaxed lifestyle photos
The kind of photos that help someone show up online looking confident, capable, and like the boss they are!!!!
Mission accomplished.
She absolutely nailed it. Basically, all I did was point and shoot!
Why Having an OBM Has Been a Game Changer for My Business
For those who don’t know, an OBM (Online Business Manager) is essentially the person who helps keep the moving parts of your business moving.
And as someone juggling:
Client shoots
Editing
Marketing
Three kids
A house that occasionally resembles a bomb site
…it turns out having someone like Bec in my corner is pretty invaluable.
She helps me with things like:
Systems and processes
Marketing planning (I’ve bolded this because !!!!)
Launches and promotions
Keeping projects moving forward
Basically, all the things that are very important but very easy to ignore when you're busy focusing on taking the actual photos on a day-to-day basis.
The Photos (And the Relief When She Loved Them)
Any photographer will tell you the most nerve-wracking moment of a shoot is when the client sees the photos.
Well, we did this in real time because I edited a few of them right there in front of her. Not my usual workflow, but luckily Bec was absolutely thrilled.
Which was a relief because how awkward would it have been if she wasn’t?!
Now she has a whole new set of images to elevate her brand online and can show up exactly as she is and should…
Like the organised, strategic, boss-level B!#$& (can I say that?)
“Working with Nat again felt incredibly special, and this shoot meant so much more to me than just updating my business photos.
For the first time in a long time, it felt like I was stepping into a new chapter and coming back to myself. While the photos are for my business, my brand is an extension of who I am, and for the first time, I genuinely feel like myself in the images. That means everything.
Nat is the most incredible photographer. Her aesthetic and creativity never cease to amaze me, but what makes her truly special is the way she makes the whole experience feel so natural and fun. I’m not someone who particularly loves being in front of the camera, but with Nat, I genuinely forget the camera is even there. There were so many real belly laughs throughout the shoot, which I think is exactly why the photos feel so authentic.
To have a full gallery that reflects both my business and this personal chapter is something I’ll treasure for a long time.
Nat, I’m so truly grateful that our paths crossed - thank you!”
A Little Love for Becollab
If you're a business owner who feels like you're constantly juggling all the things, having someone like Bec in your corner can be a total game-changer.
She’s the calm in my business chaos and has been instrumental in helping me create more structure and momentum behind the scenes.
You can check out her work at Becollab, just don’t steal too much of her time because I still need her!!
